Easy Steps to Help You & the Planet!

Konag

It’s really simple to be green.  Choosing the sustainable path will also save you money as well as help the environment.  Here are some easy steps to help you and the planet!

It’s Easy To Be Green

•If you still have any incandescent light bulbs in your home switch to the new compact fluorescent (CFL) variety. The compact fluorescents might cost a little more, but they last longer and operate using less energy, which translates into saving you money.  If every household replaced one “regular” light bulb with a compact fluorescent, the pollution reduction would be equivalent to removing one million cars from the road!

•When you’re putting dishes in the dishwasher, skip the rinse before you load. You’ll save up to 20 gallons of water per wash!

•Eat at least one meatless meal a week to help the planet and your diet!  It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef.  For each hamburger that originated from animals raised on rainforest land, approximately 55 square feet of forest have been destroyed.

•Did you know that American businesses throw away 21 million tons of paper every year?  Set your printer to double sided printing.  When you’re finished with your documents, if they aren’t confidential, always put them in the recycling bin.

•Giving a gift?  Use reusable gift bags and bows.  Also, get creative with other items you might have around the house — a pretty cloth or stationary paper, unused wallpaper, and reusable boxes.

•Always carry a reusable BPA-free container.  Tape water is actually better for your wallet, and possibly your health.  The EPA has stringent standards for tap water that are much more stringent than the FDA’s for bottled water!

•Carry reusable bags with you in your car and in your briefcase.  You never know when the urge to go shopping will strike.  Keep a reusable bag with you so that you can avoid packing groceries and other products in the paper and plastic bags provided by the store.
